Calif. Probate Attorney Pleads Guilty to Embezzling from Clients’ Estates

Pasadena, Calif. probate attorney Oscar Cruz Parra, 67, has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $500,000 from his clients’ estates.

Prosecutors say Parra began to embezzle client money in 2000, filing false court papers to cover up his actions. Parra was originally charged with 10 counts of embezzlement and preparing false court documents, but he has agreed to a plea deal in which he pleads guilty to four counts of embezzlement. Under the deal, Parra will serve five years in state prison and pay $441,000 in restitution to five former clients. The State Bar of California suspended Parra’s law license on Feb. 21; he was arrested at his San Dimas home in March.
