Calif. State Bar Ct. Upholds 4-Yr Suspension for Ex-Prosecutor

The California State Bar Court appellate panel has upheld the recommendation by a State Bar Court judge to suspend former Santa Clara County prosecutor Benjamin Field for four years. The opinion also affirmed five years of probation.

The panel found that Field, who has been a practicing lawyer for more than 16 years, evidenced an escalating pattern of misconduct over a ten-year period, including concealing evidence and ignoring judges’ orders. The panel recognized that prosecutors “must be zealous advocates in prosecuting their cases, but it cannot be at the cost of justice. We find that Field lost sight of this goal……
