W.Va. Lawyer Who Lied to Clients About Filing, Settling Cases Surrenders License
West Virginia lawyer Jessica Toler has surrendered her license to practice after the state’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel filed a legal ethics complaint against her. The complaint alleges that Toler told two of her clients that she had settled their cases for $65,000 and $250,000, when in fact she had never actually filed any lawsuits for these clients at all.
The complaint further alleges that Toler delayed filing a third client’s petition for child support modification for more than three years. When the client finally hired another attorney to handle it, Toler refused to return the client’s $750 retainer.
