U.S. International Trade Commission’s Section 337 Investigation on Infringement of Patents on Caskets

The U.S. International Trade Commission (“USITC”) has voted to institute an investigation on possible infringement of patents on certain caskets. The products at issue in this investigation are caskets with compartments for containing memorabilia.
The investigation is based on a complaint filed by Batesville Services, Inc., of Batesville, IN, on June 8, 2010. The complaint alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 in the importation into the United States and sale of certain caskets that infringe patents asserted by Batesville Services. The complainant requests that the USITC issue an exclusion order and a cease and desist order.
