Emergency Legislation to Save Teacher Jobs SIgned into Law on the Same Day That House Passes It
Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act

U.S. President Barack Obama has signed into law the Education Jobs and Medicaid Assistance Act, H.R. 1586, just hours after the House of Representatives approved it by a vote of 247 to 161.
H.R. 1586 specifically appropriates funds for education jobs; extends and modifies certain increased Federal medical assistance for States; accelerates the sunset of certain temporary increases in food assistance benefits; limits the use of foreign tax credits by U.S. corporations with foreign operations; and rescinds appropriated funds for several Federal programs.
The legislation will save or create 319,000 American jobs in local communities, including 161,000 teacher jobs, and also…
