House Holds Hearings on Performance Rights Act of 2009; Senate Re-Files Its Counterpart Bill

The House of Representatives Judiciary Committee has conducted hearings on the Performance Rights Act (H.R. 848), a bill to require over-the-air radio broadcasters to pay performance rights royalties to performers and recording owners.
Specifically, the proposed legislation, which bears the title “To provide parity in radio performance rights under title 17, United States Code, and for other purposes, “ would place AM/FM broadcasters on an equal footing with digital media companies, which already pay performance right royalties.
