Senate Passes Emergency Funds Bill For Health Care and Teacher Jobs
Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (FMAP) Extension

The Senate has approved a bill to save the jobs of tens of thousands of public school teachers and boost Medicaid payments to states. The bill specifically allocates $16.1 billion to extend Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (FMAP) to states through June 30, 2011 and $10 billion to prevent teacher layoffs and is paid for with a variety of spending rescissions.
Nationwide, the FMAP – the federal share of Medicaid – would be increased by 3.2 percentage points from January to March 2011, and 1.2 percentage points from April to June 2011 for all states, and by additional percentage points for states…
