U.S. President Signs into Law the PRO-IP Act of 2008
Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act of 2008

On October 13, 2008, U.S. President George W. Bush signed into law the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act (Pub. L. 110-403) (the “PRO-IP Act”).
The PRO-IP Act seeks to strengthen the intellectual property laws of the United States in several respects. Its measures include amending Section 410 of the Copyright Act to codify the doctrine of fraud in the registration process in the Copyright Office.
The law also clarifies that registration is not a prerequisite for criminal copyright prosecution and makes it unlawful (civilly or criminally) to export unauthorized copies and phonorecords of protected worksfrom the United…
